Chapter 2 - It Commences

As soon as I got back I had a flick through the paper and found myself a job in the detective career. Say hello to D.I. Bird! Well, maybe not yet, but I'll get there.
Dressed in my stylish new uniform, I headed out to get me some cases! But there was just one place I needed to visit first.

'What happened here?' I asked myself as a stepped out of the cab.

Peering through the balsa wood boards that covered the windows of what was once my family home, I wondered who on Earth could have done this. My mum gave me a call not two weeks after I left Moonlight Falls to tell me that her, my dad and my sister Katie were moving to Bridgeport for a taste of the apartment life. I'd assumed that they'd sold the house, I never considered that such a beautiful building could have fallen into this state of disrepair in a matter of months.

I made a mental note to call Mum as soon as I got home but for now there were cases to solve besides my own.

My first client was waiting for me at the end of his drive. If I ever get a case about some missing pies then I know who my prime suspect will be.

It turned out that he was just a crummy guy looking for help with some blackmail. Low level work but I needed the money.

Yeah, this is how I spend my evenings. Rifling through bins.

And going through people's letters.

I went home after that and, after washing my hands thoroughly, I helped myself to that bowl of ice cream I'd been craving all day.
No sooner had I swallowed my first spoonful than I felt a terrible churning in my stomach.

It must have been that cheap fridge.
'I'll buy a new, salmonella-proof one as soon as I finish this case.' I thought.
Uh-oh...

I'd never thrown up so much in my life!

After changing into a new, more casual outfit, I set out on a moonlit walk to clear my head.

I gave the information I'd stolen from that poor guy's letterbox to the fat fairy whilst I was out. He asked me to get a few more bits and pieces and then he would pay me! I left the house feeling pretty good about myself. Unfortunately, that was about to change when I caught the reflection of myself in a pond.
'Oh, gosh. It's started to show'. I muttered.
And, with that, I walked home as briskly as I could without drawing too much attention to myself.
